Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic disease affecting the bone. Several million people are affected in Germany alone, the vast majority of which are women. The bones lose strength and become porous and weaker, so that with normal load, overload or even falls, bone fractures, especially the vertebra and at the femoral neck, can occur.
The most suitable method for detecting osteoporosis is bone density measurement (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorption (DXA or DEXA). In accordance with the guidelines, appropriate therapy should be initiated in case of existing osteoporosis.
